A story shared by the parents of Rachele, beneficiary of the ABF Edu Care program.

There are experiences that leave a deep mark on you, especially when it comes to your children’s health. For those who spend long periods in the hospital, each day can feel endless, difficult, and filled with emotions to manage.

The ABF Edu-Care program represents something truly important, especially for children with chronic illnesses who spend a great deal of time in the hospital. At the same time, it is also essential for us parents, who face these complex moments alongside them.

I particularly remember a very difficult day, when I felt the need to step away from my daughter Rachele. At that moment, I was not able to support her as I would have wanted. However, Federica, an ABF atelierista, was there with her, and thanks to the activities carried out, Rachele was able to calm down.

When I found the courage to go back, she noticed that I looked a bit sad and asked me what had happened. I explained that the doctors had told us we would need to stay in the hospital for a few more days in order to continue the necessary course of treatment.

Her response deeply moved me:

“Mom, don’t worry, I have fun here, I feel good.”

In those words lies the true meaning of this program: when children are able to face their days with serenity, when they find a way to feel well even in a difficult environment like a hospital, then we know we are moving in the right direction.

For us parents, what truly matters is this: knowing that our children, even as they go through all of this, can do so with a smile and a sense of lightness. Because yes, it is something they have to face… but being able to experience it with peace of mind makes all the difference.
