The Municipality of Macerata and Macerata’s Sferisterio Association together with the Mediolanum Foundation for the Andrea Bocelli Foundation

On September 5 at the Sferisterio, “E lucevan le stelle”, promising young people with great talent together for an evening of music and solidarity with the special participation of Andrea Bocelli for ABF’s new rebuilding project following on from the earthquake that hit central Italy in 2016

Macerata, July 24, 2021 – In recent years, the Andrea Bocelli Foundation has been especially focused on the area affected by the earthquake that hit central Italy in 2016, particularly in the province of Macerata. For this reason, the Municipality of Macerata and the Arena Sferisterio Association have decided to join forces to organize a fundraising show to benefit ABF, “E lucevan le stelle”,  which will take place on September 5 at the Sferisterio in Macerata. The grant maker partner will be the Mediolanum Foundation Onlus, which will double the proceeds of the event up to a maximum of 50,000 euros aimed at supporting the new project that ABF will inaugurate in September, in the province of Macerata, in agreement with the Special Commissioner for Reconstruction. This is a new project that, as always, will benefit the young people of the Marche region to whom the Foundation wishes to renew and emphasize its support once again in striving to build a future filled with opportunities and development.

The sale of tickets will be open to the public from August 1; from today, July 24, companies and individuals who would like to contribute to the fundraiser by becoming event partners and/or participating in exclusive initiatives that are part of it, can express their interest by emailing: partner@sferisterio.it

In the year of the centenary of the first occasion in which the Sferisterio was used as an opera house with Verdi’s “Aida” , there is another anniversary that you should mark on the calendar and that is September 5, 1829, when the Arena was inaugurated with a game of palla al bracciale – bracelet ball. What we now know as a temple of opera, was actually created as a stadium at the behest of 100 Macerata families who built this place “to adorn the city and for public enjoyment.”

The benefit evening, scheduled for Sunday, September 5 in the arena of Macerata, will therefore be a tribute to the “birthday” of this monument, which today is a space for opera, music, and art in general. These are elements of great value capable of connecting the past and the future, creating links, and generating not only beauty in the soul but also important opportunities for communities and territories as ABF hopes to do with its projects. Thanks to similar initiatives, the Foundation has already built (in 150 days of construction for each project) three functional and safe structures in the Marche region: in 2018 in Sarnano it inaugurated the “G.Leopardi” middle school, in 2019 in Muccia it gave the community the “E. De Amicis” pre-school and elementary school, while in 2020 it opened the doors of the new Music Academy in Camerino. After supporting ABF’s reconstruction projects in the municipalities of Sarnano and Muccia, the Mediolanum Foundation Onlus has chosen to support the Marche region on this occasion also.

The program of the evening is currently being defined and will include a part dedicated to the opera repertoire and a section more heavily focused on pop music. Andrea Bocelli is expected to participate together with many other artists who are friends of the Sferisterio and the Andrea Bocelli Foundation. Before the evening, initiatives will be held that will aim to raise additional funds, such as an aperitif with partner companies and a charity dinner. The evening will also feature a variety of specific activities and benefits for our partners.

Tickets will be available at the Theaters’ box office in Piazza Mazzini 10 in Macerata and on the vivaticket.it website from August 1, 2021. To support event-related initiatives, please contact: partner@sferisterio.it
